One Economy - Hello from the UK

I came here today, inspired by what I'd read about One Economy because I believe we share the same vision. Our story actually begins in the US, in Chapel Hill NC where my colleague and founder began his work.

We discovered that we shared a vision of a new kind of society made possible by a connected world and in 2003, he was fasting for economic rights in the US when I decided to join in.

It goes back a long way, starting in the 80s with his work on POW/MIAs which gained the attention of Bill Clinton. Offered the opportunity to serve on his re-election committee, he submitted a paper on a more inclusive form of capitalism for the Information Age.

Since then we've be directing efforts toward Eastern Europe, in his one-man assault on poverty corruption and neglect backed by revenue from social enterprise business here in the UK.

We targeted Ukraine in 2004 with a strategy paper delivered in 2006, for an national affordable broadband network and microfinance accessibilty with profit directed to social purpose, using the model of inclusive capitalism described in the paper to Clinton, the same model that powers our advocacy today.

We're backing Obama, naturally, since the concept of Obamanomics is right up our street. In fact, I've create a Facebook group about it if anyone is interested in promoting social enterprise.

Nearly a century ago, a writer named Leo Tolstoy mentored a young Gandhi on his idea for nonviolence. He also wrote of a legend, about a buried green stick with an inscription bearing a message which would bring all mankind to live as brothers in a world free of war and disease. I see that green stick as a metaphor for what we attempt today.
